Tom’s Midnight Garden

Being lucky enough to have children that are still young enough to want me to read to before bedtime, I came across this book by chance. Not only did my son look forward to each new chapter every night, but I thoroughly enjoyed the story too. The last couple of chapters in particular were so exciting that we couldn’t wait for it to be bedtime!

Without spoiling the fun, this book is about a young boy called Tom who is sent to stay with his Aunt and Uncle for a while, and whilst lying in bed at night he hears the old grandfather clock downstairs chime. Unbelievably the clock chimes 13 times, so Tom rushes downstairs to investigate and finds himself in the garden where he sees some other children – but they can’t see him, with the exception of Hatty who becomes Tom’s friend. Are Hatty and the others ghosts, or is Tom a ghost? Read this delightful book to find out.
